Brendan Nelson and Sadist's Banquet.

9.6 out of every 10 psychologists agree that Peter “PC” Costello looks happier than ever. His inner sadist seems calmed as PC swims in compliments, pleas and general positive energy while the burden of oppositional politics weighs on Coalition members. The glint in his eye proves the Egyptian proverb “true happiness comes from allowing your inner sadist to embrace [its] object” and the performance of Brendan “Not The Full” Nelson is a sadist’s delight.
Paul Keating once observed on SKY TV that Nelson was “better when he had his little earring”, we can all sympathise, but Nelson’s declining performance is not entirely his fault. During a government’s honeymoon period a green Opposition Leader is like silent-film villain; opposed to Good but unable to say why and initially who cares for reasons? Prince Rudd will sweep Nelson aside in a torrent of pure good; even his world tour passed with nary a whisper for it was a mission of Good. Hurrah!
Victory in any combative circumstance comes from the ability to capitalise on mistakes and Nelson continues to make schoolyard errors across mediums. In Question Time his bumbling performance disgraces the gladiatorial arena, at one stage he called Australia’s aid package to Burma “Pathetic” moments later Prince Rudd revealed it was the most generous government package offered. The only sound was the squeaking of back benches. Our psychologists agreed over coffee that the dizzying effect of being so close to real power is behind Nelson’s confused utterances. Announcements like "Peter's made his decision that he did not seek the leadership of the party. As I've said before, I'd be very happy if he changes his mind - that's his business." are hints of frailty and portents of doom. The Peter Costello journey is about to begin.
Fellow adventurers will prove difficult to choose and the choice of First-Mate is crucial. Team Costello/Abbott will not help the party because the obvious comparison to the famous comedy team will make them the brunt of too many, easy, jokes. As for Turnbull/Costello they are like Gerrard and Lampard: they can’t work together for the good of the nation. I bid you relax citizens! Soon Nelson will be gone and we will be the object of PC’s affections once more.
